You can find me slinging drinks and cracking smiles at a 40-seat cocktail lounge in downtown Seattle. The name is Suite 410, the game is hospitality. It takes a wild breed of bartender to run our program- 4 days per week we work completely solo- offering a menu of 30 cocktails and 600 spirits. Each night as the bar picks up speed, it becomes a one-person show; the experience for guests limited only by the imagination of the bartender. For a hospitalitarian like myself, it’s a dream. I get super lucky, too; despite being situated like an island in the archipelago of drinking hot spots which make up Seattle, my guests are usually down to push their limits (and mine) with interesting cocktails and unique spirits.
Where do you draw your cocktail inspiration from?
Equal parts, split between:
1.) Classics. Know them well, my friends, and don’t be afraid to whip one out.
2.) My super talented community. I love sitting at bars, watching bartenders in their element, observing how they flow, which the bottles they grab, what details snag their attention.. yadda yadda. Sure, sweet ideas happen organically, but if one isn’t paying close attention to their peers, it shows.
